Couples therapy

Couples therapy is not about deciding who is “right.” It’s about understanding the cycle you get stuck in.

“Couples therapy is not about deciding who is right. It’s about understanding the cycle you keep getting pulled into, and learning how to step out of it.”

Most couples arrive having had the same argument dozens of times. The topic can be money, parenting, intimacy, or something said years ago. The pattern underneath stays the same. That pattern is what therapy works on.

Couples therapy can help with

  • Repeated arguments that never resolve
  • Emotional disconnection
  • Trust injuries and repair
  • Communication breakdown
  • Differences in values, intimacy, parenting, or substance use impacts

How it works

1

Name the cycle

We map the pattern together, looking at what sets it off and what it costs each of you.

2

Interrupt it

You learn to catch it earlier. Communication shifts from reactive to deliberate. Repairs become possible again.

3

Build something new

Deeper understanding of what each person needs, and a working plan for what better actually looks like for your relationship.

The approach

Sessions draw on EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) and Gottman research. EFT addresses the attachment patterns that fuel recurring conflict. Gottman tools give couples concrete methods for communication, repair, and trust. For patterns with longer roots, insight-oriented work runs alongside skill development.

Some couples come knowing what they want. They need tools and focus, not a long process. Others are working through years of accumulated distance or conflict. The format adjusts to what the work actually requires.

All relationship structures welcome, including CNM and polyamorous couples

Confidentiality and communication

For couples, confidentiality and information-sharing rules are established in writing case-by-case at the beginning of treatment. We clarify:

  • Whether individual disclosures can be kept confidential
  • How individual check-ins (if used) are handled
  • How we communicate between sessions

Session structure

  • 50–55 minutes per session
  • Telehealth only; you must be located in Florida at the time of session

The pace and format match your goals (stabilization, repair work, or deeper pattern change).
