Before You Request SAT Accommodations: A Family Checklist

Use this checklist to prepare for a conversation with the student’s school or a clinical prescreener. It does not determine eligibility and does not replace College Board’s instructions.

Confirm the request and deadline

• Write down the intended SAT administration date.
• Confirm the school's deadline for sending a request through SSD Online.
• Identify the exact accommodation being requested, such as extended time or a reduced-distraction setting.
• Allow time for follow-up if College Board requests additional information.

Start with the school

• Ask who serves as the school's SSD coordinator.
• Ask whether the student's current IEP, 504 Plan, or other formal plan meets the school-verification criteria.
• Confirm which accommodations the student currently uses in class and on school tests.
• Ask whether the school expects College Board to require a separate documentation review.

Organize the existing record

• Locate the current IEP, 504 Plan, or comparable school plan.
• Gather relevant prior evaluation reports without sending them through ordinary email.
• List the accommodations previously approved, used, or denied by a school or testing organization.
• Note examples of difficulty under timed conditions and any available timed-versus-untimed information.
• Keep any College Board decision letter or request for additional information.

Decide whether a clinical prescreen is the next step

• Clarify what the existing record does not answer.
• Confirm that the student will be physically located in Florida for clinical services.
• If the student is a minor, plan for a parent or guardian to participate in consent and the evaluation process.
• Use the secure prescreener only for a brief initial inquiry. Wait for clinical review before sending testing records through the Client Portal.

Completing every item does not guarantee that an evaluation is needed or that College Board will approve an accommodation. It helps the family, school, and clinician identify the next unanswered question.
